Frequently Asked Questions

Does acupuncture hurt?

Acupuncture is almost painless! We use thin filiform needles that are about the size of a few strands of human hair. If you have a fear of needles, don't worry! There are options to do acupressure, crystal therapy, and aromatherapy to activate acupuncture points until you feel comfortable to progress to needles. The goal of acupuncture is to engage your parasympathetic nervous system (rest and digest), so I make sure to create a comfortable environment that allows you to relax.

What does acupuncture treat?

Everything! East Asian Medicine uses a diagnosis lens that treats the patient's entire system. No matter what you come in for, you will get an acupuncture diagnosis that is specifically tailored to you! The most common diagnoses treated in my practice are infertility, women's health, body pain, mental well-being, migraines/headaches, digestive disorders, allergies, insomnia, and autoimmune disorders, just to name a few!

What does an acupuncture treatment consist of?

In order to come up with your specific acupuncture diagnosis, the three main diagnostic tools used are tongue, pulse, and medical history. The tongue is a map of what is going on inside the body and gives critical information for the root cause of disease. The pulse is representative of the energy flow within the 12 primary meridians in the body. Your chief complaint and medical history give insight to your constitution type. Once your acupuncture diagnosis is complete, acupuncture needles will be placed on the specific points necessary, and you can relax in the room for 30 minutes. Other modalities such as cupping, guasha, moxibustion, crystal healing, and aromatherapy can be added into the treatment if indicated by the diagnosis. Once your treatment is finished, we go over acupuncture treatment plan and expectations. Medical history is taken on your first session, therefore the first session is longer than following appointments.
